Mark Ronson: Paul McCartney Saved Me From Drowning

Turns out Sir Paul McCartney is just as noble as his knighthood would suggest. The ex-Beatle saved producer-extraordinaire Mark Ronson from drowning in the Long Island Sound when Ronson was just a child.

Apparently Ronson, who was too young to remember and heard the story from his mother, wasn't entirely convinced the tale was true. "That sounded like one of my mum's crazy stories," Ronson told Britains Live Magazine.

Bjork Cancels More Tour Dates, Four Tet Sells Out in 10 Minutes, The Worst Tour of the Summer & More

  • Posted on May 10th 2012 3:00PM by Theo Bark

BjorkCourtesy of Bjork

After canceling a string of headlining performances in South America last month, Bjork has been forced to pull her appearances at Spain's Primavera Sound and Portugal's Optimus Primavera Sound, due to further issues with her vocal chords. No word as to her replacement -- we're hoping for Kraftwerk. [ConsequenceOfSound]

Check out two new Four Tet tracks from his forthcoming 12" "Jupiters" b/w "Ocoras." Pretty rad. Four Tet's also curating this Fugazi-inspired Brixton all-nighter with Caribou, Pearson Sound, Pangea, Floating Points and more in November. Unfortunately, it sold out in 10 minutes. [SoundCloud]

Here's the tour you've been waiting for: this July, Grimes, Diplo, Pretty Lights and Skrillex will travel around Canada on a private passenger train. The tour was inspired by the 1970 Festival Express tour, which featured Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, and The Band, but will suck a whole lot more. [Pitchfork]

Doe Paoro 'Born Whole' (Young Midnight Remix) -- MP3 Premiere + Free MP3 Download

Big Hassle

If you were to ask Brooklyn-based musician Doe Paoro to describe her music, she would respond "Ghost Soul." Her music is wistful and wispy, and reminiscent of "a choir of ghosts who haven't completely detached from the human experience."

Her song "Born Whole" is just like that. It appears on her Slow to Love album, out now, and features drifting and plaintive vocals that oscillate between ethereal and soulful. "We come into being as complete people, but somewhere along the line start searching for this mythical other 'half,' as though we didn't have everything we needed," Paoro tells Spinner.

Futurecop!, 'The Only Way' (Feat. Keenhouse) Video Premiere: Retro Mannequin Love

The Sleepover Party

Manchester, U.K. synth-pop duo Futurecop!'s "The Only Way" video begins fittingly, with a reference to now-defunct production company Orion pictures (RoboCop, Terminator), then takes us to Norwalk, C.A.'s Golf N' Stuff, where '80's classic The Karate Kid was filmed.

Our hero, Eric Isenhower ("Parks and Recreation"), is typically late, according to his disgruntled boss Jon Lajoie (Taco from "The League), but he puts some shades on a mannequin, and unwittingly transforms the mini golf course into a solo dance party starring cult film star Whitney Moore (Birdemic), who grinds her way around the course, as our hero gives chase. Animated unicorns, prism effects ensue.

"I think the video is fantastic, it really captures the nostalgia and vibe of the sound perfectly, and it's great to work with Brandon, he totally gets the song," Futurecop! tell Spinner. " It really comes through in his visuals, and he enhances the music so well."

Deadmau5 Almost Sets Himself, Club on Fire

Canadian DJ Joel Zimmerman, better known as Deadmau5, almost set himself and an entire club on fire Friday night, reports the New York Post. The incident occurred at Meatpacking District club Provocateur where the progressive house superstar had erected his trademark gigantic 7-foot mouse head to commemorate his set.

The incendiary event happened while Zimmerman was premiering a new song entitled "The Veldt." During the song he lit an air horn, igniting a huge spark which almost engulfed a celebrity filled crowd -- including model Hillary Rhoda and singer Ciara -- in the blaze. Outside, there were almost 200 people waiting to enter the hotspot.

Congorock, 'Ivory' Video Premiere: The Power and Anger of Youth

  • Posted on May 7th 2012 11:40AM by Theo Spielberg

Ysa Pérez

"This is life, it's beautiful," begins the video for Congorock's "Ivory." "There's nothing better than something like this." It then centers on a young, dreadlocked man polishing off a 40, smoking something, downing some pills, riding a bike, wooing a lady -- y'know, kids' stuff. All this transpires while Congorock's hypnotic electro-house track builds in the background.

"With this song, I wanted to create a sound like elephants charging on their hunters," Congorock tells Spinner. "I've always been fascinated by such big and powerful animals that can still be victims of human greediness. The young boy in AG Rojas' video reminds me of an elephant: So much power and anger, and ready to explode against his biggest enemy -- routine life in a dead, middle-of-nowhere town in the countryside."

Kid Koala on Fatherhood, Yo Gabba Gabba and Crafting 'Space Cadet' for a Decade

Ninja Tune

Kid Koala, the Canadian DJ and cartoonist otherwise known as Eric San, no longer quite fits his nom de turntable. Though he started out young -- self-distributing his demo mixtape way back in 1996 on audio cassette -- the Ninja Tunes turntablist is now in his late-30s and has a kid of his own.

Over these years he's refined his unique cut-up musical style and quirky illustrations to the point where he has arrived at current triumph Space Cadet, a wordless and wonderful graphic novel with an equally wordless and wonderful "still picture score" soundtrack CD.

Kid Koala spoke to Spinner about being a dad, cutting his own vinyl and why one-eyed Muno is so scary.
