CompanyExit Stencil Records

Artist: Company
Hail From: Charleston, S.C.
Song: 'Something About You'
Album: 'Dear America,'
Sounds Like: The Shins, Dinosaur Jr.

In Their Words: "Theres that scene in the 'Starsky & Hutch' movie where Ben Stiller is messed up on cocaine and Owen Wilson plays that one song and there's cartoon birds flying around his head ... Well, I always dug that song and it was in my head when I wrote 'Something About You.' I wanted it to sound like T. Rex during the verses then the chorus ending with a loud Dinosaur Jr. type of distortion." -- Singer Brian Hannon

Megan Reilly, 'Throw It Out' -- Video of the Day

  • Posted on May 15th 2012 6:00PM by Sam Einhorn

Artist: Megan Reilly
Video: "Throw It Out"
Highlight: "This song was inspired by the break up of two good friends," Megan Reilly tells Spinner. "And when director Antoine Wagner came to me with the idea of emulating the late French comedian, Fernandel, and having me and my husband wear matching suits I thought it was the perfect visual to a heartbreaking song. It's not taking itself too seriously but also perfectly identifies the two characters I'm singing about. One trying to change the other, the other trying to break free."

The Hives on Spinner's office roofGino DePinto, AOL

When the Hives tell you they're the greatest band in the world, they're not being arrogant pricks: That's just how high they set the bar for themselves, their shows and their upcoming album, Lex Hives, which comes five years after their last LP.

"Taking a long time between records, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy, because if you take a long time, and it starts to feel like a long time, then the album really has to be good," frontman Howlin' Pelle Almqvist says while seated on a couch in Spinner's New York office, flanked by his four bandmates.

"There's a bunch of stuff that needs to happen for a record to get done, and I think all of us wanted the record to be so good that it just had to take a good amount of time," adds drummer Chris Dangerous.

Jay-Z Supports Gay Marriage, Calls Obama's Endorsement 'The Right Thing to Do as a Human Being'

Ilya S. Savenok, FilmMagic

If Jay-Z succeeds in booking President Obama for his two-day Budweiser Made in America festival, set to go down in Philly over Labor Day weekend, Hova and the POTUS will have at least one thing to chat about backstage: their shared support of gay marriage.

Speaking with CNN's Poppy Harlow, Jay-Z said he believes gay people should have the right to get married, echoing statements Obama made last week.

"I've always thought it as something that was still holding the country back," the rapper said. "What people do in their own homes is their business, and you can choose to love whoever you love. That's their business. It's no different than discriminating against blacks. It's discrimination, plain and simple."

Leonard Cohen Receives Glenn Gould Prize, Donates $50K Reward to Arts Council

Joel Saget, AFP

Leonard Cohen took home the Glenn Gould Prize last night at a star-studded ceremony at Toronto's Massey Hall. But the legend then promptly gave the $50,000 reward which came with it to the Canada Council for the Arts as a generous donation.

Cohen mentioned the Canada Council for the Arts in a brief speech saying "without the help and encouragement of the Canada Council, I would never have written The Favorite Game or The Spice Box of Earth," referring to early writing works.

He then said encouraging words to the musicians who were set to perform his songs that night.
